Tips To Calibrate Laptop Battery
As part of maintenance, re- calibrate laptop battery is needed. Here are some tips regarding how to do it. At first, make sure you know what type of battery your laptop uses. Basically, there are two kinds of batteries, Ni-MH Cell and Li-ion. Each of them has different ways of preserving energy, therefore, different ways to re-calibrate them.
If you have found out that your laptop uses Ni-MH cell, you can re- calibrate laptop battery in this easy step. First, drain your battery by putting your laptop to sleep. Turn off the screen saver or other power management settings. After that, charge your laptop at its full capacity and restore the screensaver and power management settings. Do these steps monthly. Charge it fully, and then discharge it fully, too.
If your laptop is using li-Ion instead, do not, under any circumstances attempt to re-calibrate it that way. It is because Li-Ion is chemical in its nature, charging and recharging will not be a solution. Deep discharges will lessen the capacity and the lifespan. This type of battery looses approximately 2% at 0oC, 4% at 25oC, and 15% at 40oC when stored at 40% charge level. One simple tip for Li-Ion battery is do not leave it in the laptop when you don’t use it and when you plug the laptop into power outlet.
There is another way to re-calibrate laptop battery. If your laptop has IBM ThinkPad Battery Maximiser and Power Management installed, you can use it to maximize your laptop battery’s life. There is Battery Maximiser Gauge in taskbar tray that will display the remaining battery capacity.
